Por las Peñas

Por la Peñas follows Martín, a young man who travels to the remote village of La Peñas in the Sierra of Córdoba, answering the invitation of his friend Josué to make a documentary there. When he arrives, however, Josué is nowhere to be found. Over the course of several days, Martín wanders through the village with his camera, capturing daily life and conversing with its inhabitants.

What begins as a search for a missing friend slowly transforms into a revelation: although the townspeople continue to speak of and believe in a mayor who supposedly governs them, the man has in fact been absent for years. Through Martín’s recordings and interviews, the truth emerges—a carefully guarded secret. La Peñas is not run by an official authority, but has long been self-governed by its residents in a system that is anarchic yet remarkably well organized.

Both a mystery and a reflection on community, Por la Peñas blurs the line between documentary and fiction, questioning authority, memory, and the hidden structures that sustain collective life.
